Residents in Marine Court and River Court, Purfleet are now live with the fastest broadband service in the UK, thanks to a partnership between Thurrock Council and Hyperoptic, the UK’s largest residential gigabit broadband provider.

Thurrock Council announced in April that it agreed a partnership, which would see full fibre broadband from Hyperoptic being installed across 12 of its social housing developments.

This enables 1,700 tenants to have access to seamless connectivity. All of this was to be, and has been, at no cost to the tax-payer.

Marine and River Court is the first development to go live. Installation is also taking place in the following developments, and is being prioritised by resident demand:

·       Arthur Toft, George Crooks and Lionel Oxley House

·       Bevan and Morrison House

·       Brisbane, Freemantle and Tasmania House

·       Butler, Davall and Greenwood House

·       Chieftan Drive

·       Clayburn Gardens

·       Cranell Green

·       George Tilbury, Gooderham and Poole House

·       Keir Hardie House

·       Perth House

·       Seabrooke Rise

Hyperoptic offers the fastest residential broadband service in the UK. It is proudly setting a new fibre ‘gold standard’ with unmatched speed, reliability and customer service.

Its hyperfast, symmetrical gigabit services are over 27x faster than the average speed a UK consumer receives today.

Hyperoptic runs its own dedicated Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, which is why it can offer these symmetrical gigabit broadband services (1,000Mbps.)

Shane Hebb, councillor for Finance and IT at Thurrock Council said: “We are very excited that these two developments are now live – and importantly, at zero cost to the tax-payer.

“We have been able to work with Hyperoptic who have allowed residents to choose from a number of Hyperoptic’s affordable broadband and landline packages, as part of the work to get residents connected - enabling resident access to online digital services 24/7, 365 days a year.

“Residents in social housing will be able to use this unique offer to complete a wide range of transactions; from updating council tax details; apply for school places; childcare for families with children under the age of two, and many other things.

“My full praise to Hyperoptic for becoming great colleagues, and for my colleagues at the council who have worked tirelessly to make this a reality”.

Steve Holford, Chief Customer Officer, Hyperoptic, adds: “We have successfully worked on projects of every scale in the private sector, and become a standard addition to the initial drawings of many of the larger developers.

"In the last year we have extended our focus to the public sector as we could see there was a huge opportunity to help councils to achieve their digital inclusion targets at little to no cost.

"Thurrock Council was one of our first council partnerships, so its hugely rewarding to now be live and delivering our full fibre services to its residents. The feedback so far has been phenomenal.”

Residents can choose from a number of Hyperoptic’s affordable broadband and landline packages, including Hyperoptic’s full gigabit service, as well as its 100Mbps or 20Mbps service – all of which can be ordered on a contract-free basis, without any need for credit checks.

Hyperoptic is also offering Thurrock Council’s residents its bespoke entry-level product, ‘Fibre Light’, which at £9 a month for a 5Mbps broadband-only service is, by far, the UK’s cheapest broadband-only service.
