A FUN day is hoping to contribute towards a £50,000 fundraising drive for a four-year-old boy’s life-changing surgery and recuperation.

Archie Outten, a regular at Brandon Groves Community Club, in South Ockendon, was born with cerebral palsy and spent the first three weeks of his life in intensive.

His condition makes it difficult for him to walk for any length of time and has seen him fall regularly over the years.

Friends and family of the “little fighter” are hoping to raise £50,000 needed to carry out a procedure called selective dorsal rhizotomy - which aims to get Archie on his feet.

Through events and other fundraising pushes, parents Hannah and Kevin have seen £32,000 raised to pay for the complicated surgery, which is due to take place in Bristol and is currently unavailable on the NHS. However, the three years of aftercare little Archie will need takes the money required up to £50,000.

Mrs Outten, from East Ham, paid tribute to the help her family has received from generous wellwishers.

She said: “He will be having the surgery at the end of June, which we can cover with the money raised.

“But Archie is going to need a lot of rehab and physiotherapy, which we have been told could last for three years. The first year would see him have physio three times a week.

“He will have to learn how to walk and sit up all over again, but the specialists say he has a good chance because he is so young. He is such a strong little boy and this will hopefully allow him to not be held back and be a normal little boy.”

Archie’s Dream Fete Day will be taking place on Sunday from 12pm until 5pm.

Tickets cost £5 each for adults and children - under-ones go free. The event will feature inflatables, softplay, facepainting, a raffle, DJ, an entertainer and a barbecue. To donate, visit justgiving.com/crowdfunding/archies-dream.
