Thurrock’s teenagers have the opportunity to help other young people get into reading this summer for another much anticipated ‘Summer Reading Challenge’.
Thurrock’s libraries are again on the lookout for volunteers aged between 13 and 16 to help over the summer holidays for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge ‘Animal Agents’.
Lyn Carpenter, Chief Executive of Thurrock Council, said: “The national Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year and is an ideal opportunity to have fun, gain new skills and get some great experience to include on your CV.
“Last year, more than 60 young people helped over 3,000 Thurrock children take part in the challenge, talking to them about their books and offering encouragement.”
The Summer Reading Challenge runs from 15 July to 9 September. Application forms and role descriptions are available from libraries or from the Thurrock Council website at thurrock.gov.uk/volunteering. The closing date for applications is Saturday 17 June and training is provided in July after school.
