THURROCK residents are being warned not to pay excessive fees for “advice” about applying for a Blue Badge.

Sue Little, councillor for adult and children’s social care, said: “We have been made aware of a website that claims to provide help for Blue Bade claims, and costs £49.

“This is nothing to do with the council or the government as a whole and although not illegal, we should be aware that the website gives the impression that the extortionate fee guarantees a successful application. This is not the case.

“There is a very simple system for applying through the council’s website and the cost – for any successful application – is £10 only.

“I’m urging family members and friends of older, perhaps vulnerable people to check in and make sure loved ones are not being taken advantage of.”

Residents applying for a Blue Badge or seeking to renew their badge should go to the council’s website and follow the links.

To apply or renew residents will need a digital or signed photograph, your National Insurance number, proof of identification, and proof of residency. Those seeking to renew will also have to provide details of their current badge.

Helpful notes are also available on the website.
