A HUGE pile of waste was dumped in a road causing anger from councillors.

The rubble and rubbish was found in Armor Road, Purfleet and it was reported that the waste was enough to fill several lorry loads.

It is understood that this has become a hotspot for flytipping.

Peter Smith, Ukuip councillor for Aveley and Uplands who was on the scene said: "Again residents of Watts Wood have to put up with dumbing by unscrupulous traders.

“It’s been reported and I've called (again) for the Council to introduce CCTV. Residents have had enough, it’s time for action rather than empty threats from the Cabinet."

Flytipping has been an ongoing issue across Thurrock with various incidents being reported to the Gazette.

A spokesman for Thurrock Council said: “Thurrock Council's social media team swiftly responded to a report from a resident late on Wednesday January 4 and within minutes put them in touch with the Environment Agency who are investigating all fly-tips over a certain size.

“The Out of Hours Environment Agency team logged the incident within the hour and information has been passed to our Environment team to clear following a site visit for evidence collection.

“There can be a delay in clearing large fly tips like this one, as specialist machinery is sometimes needed as well as necessary investigative time for the Environment Agency to collect evidence.”

A spokesman for The Environment Agency said: “On Wednesday 5 January, we received a report from a member of the public advising that around 20 tonnes of rubble and bricks had been flytipped on Armor Road, Purfleet.

"We believe it may be connected with Operation BAY LEAF, our ongoing investigation into serious and significant multiple flytipping across Essex.

"We are continuing our enquiries and working with Thurrock Council to establish the source of the waste and would ask anyone with information to report it to our 24-hr, 7-days a week incident hotline 0800 80 70 60, or to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
