Staff at a centre for children with disabilities have been praised for the "simply amazing" job they do.
Cllr Sue Little, Thurrock Council's cabinet member for Children’s Social Care, paid a visit to the team at the Sunshine Centre in Tilbury.
The council-supported service is for children aged up to 19 years with a whole range of needs, both behavioural and physical. The centre includes a fully-equipped sensory room and is for parents and siblings, as well as children with disabilities.
Cllr Little said: “This week I was very proud to visit the very dedicated team in Tilbury.
“The service they offer is an important one. Families with a child with a disability can need additional support including emotional, peer, physical and respite.
“The team is simply amazing and they are doing a truly fabulous job. I had a really lovely time meeting young carers, families and young people.
“It is important we continue to offer the service not just to children with disabilities, but also be there for all the young carers we have in Thurrock. These young carers often go about their business looking after unwell parents or disabled siblings and are simply heros. They have amazing skills and empathy for others and never complain.
“They are far older than their years and so it is our duty to help where we can, and give them experiences befitting of their age.”
