A RESIDENTS' association is celebrating after receiving a grant to resurface the roads of a private estate.

The Frost Estate Community Association has been working to get the roads fixed on the Frost Estate, Corringham, for years and now the work is under way.

Members of the Frost Estate Community Association applied to the Community Environmental Development Fund, which is run by Thurrock Council, for a grant and the group received £126,000.

The group was formed to replaced a similar group around four years ago.

Works are currently taking place in Giffords Cross Road, Corringham.

Joe Ravenhill, of Chamberlain Avenue, chairman of the Frost Estate Community Association, is very pleased with the success of the group.

He said: "We formed our group as the former association, the Frost Estate Residents Association, were pushing to set up a parish council and we wanted to try to stop that.

"We were lucky to have the backing of Thurrock Council and then we started the Frost Estate Community Association.

"People tell us all the time that they did not expect us to succeed in getting the work on the estate but we have beaten the odds.

"We are happy that we have been able to deliver what we promised to the residents on this estate and we hope to carry out more improvement works in the future."

Pete O'Rourke, 68, of Balmoral Avenue, Corringham, said the work will make the estate better for so many people.

He said: "People pass through the estate to get to the town centre and so there will be many people who will benefit from the works including people in buggies and wheelchairs.

"The improvements to the roads will also benefit lorry and delivery drivers who use the junctions and roads.

"We are over the moon with the news. I have been living on this estate for about 30 years now and I have seen the roads deteriorate during that time."

Sue MacPherson, councillor responsible for neighbourhoods, said: “I’m really pleased to see work begin on the Frost Estate after all their hard work and effort in successfully bidding for the grant money.”
