Thousands turned out for the 110th Orsett Show which enjoyed a very British summer weather showing of rain and sun on Saturday.

Close to 11,000 arrived at the event which was around the same number as last year, organisers said.

Some of the highlights visitors enjoyed included a high-flying motorcycle display team from Bolddog Lings FMX who put on a full stunt show, along with a school 'zoo'.

Show Secretary Georgina Clark said: “It was a wonderful celebration of 110 years of the Orsett Show. The weather was also kind to us as it didn’t rain until 4. Everyone had a great time and we were really pleased with the attendance.”

The Schools’ Marquee was an 'explosion of colour and creativity', bringing together the talent of Thurrock’s children and teaching staff.

Shannon Tagg, 12, from the Ockendon Academy, South Ockendon, (pictured) got her chance to hold a corn snake, one of the animals the Academy put on display with their very own special school ‘zoo’, which included snakes, hamsters and lizards.

Thurrock MP Jacqui Doyle-Price commented “I always enjoy visiting the Schools tent. This year was more interactive than ever. I particularly enjoyed the Gateway chutney.”

Thurrock Community Policing team and Essex PCC Roger Hirst were one of the many bodies to man a stand to celebrate the day and meet the public.

Ken Crowther, the BBC Essex gardening expert, was also on hand to broadcast live from the showground on Saturday morning.

Whilst some children have trouble liking their greens, five-year-old Amy Rigden-Bruton (pictured) of Woodcoat, Basildon really enjoyed the giant cabbages on display in the Horticulture marquee.

John Wilkins, of Grays, (pictured) brought his 'one-third-size' model of a Burrell engine, which took six years to build, to display in public for the first time.

Other highlights of the show included birds of prey and horse and hounds displays in the Grand Ring, Chris Meacham and his Ferrets, a Bob Hogg sheep dog show, as well as classic cars and vintage steam engines, and even a circus ring.
