HEARTLESS thieves smashed their way into a Grays charity shop overnight.

The Salvation Army shop on Orsett Road had the glass of its front door smashed, before the culprits made their way inside the shop. They got back out by crow barring the shops back door and making their escape.

Charity staff say jewellery and watches were taken.

Peter Brown, the shop manager, said: “It’s a heartless break in. People must be desperate. If people are really that desperate we would give them stuff to help out.”

A police spokeswoman said: “Police were contacted at around 8.20am this morning, Tuesday, December 1, with reports of a break-in at the Salvation Army charity shop in Orsett Road, Grays, which is believed to have happen overnight.

“Glass in the front door was smashed and the premises searched. Police are awaiting full details on what has been stolen.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
