A grandmother has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Leung Cheung celebrated her the milestone on Friday at Thurrock Council’s Piggs Corner sheltered housing complex.

Surrounded by family and friends Ms Cheung proudly showed off her personalised plaque and message from the Queen.

With five generations of her family still living – including six grandchildren - Ms Cheung moved to the UK from Hong Kong in 1980 and raised her daughter and grandchildren at home.

Among those at the celebrations were ward councillors Yash Gupta and Mike Stone.

Councillor Gupta said he was delighted to be a part of the festivities, adding: “What a wonderful event to be a part of.”

Councillor Stone added he was thrilled to be there. “It’s great to be invited to such a momentous event – I’d like to say thank you to all the staff and family for arranging this lovely day,” he said
