Police have urged witnesses to come forwards as they launch an investigation into the fire at Flint Street, Grays, last night.

Police and the fire service are carrying out a joint investigation into the blaze at the derelict building in Flint Street, last night on Wednesday June 24.

The fire started at around 6pm on Wednesday evening and took five hours for firefighters to bring under control.

There was no-one inside the building, which has collapsed.

Firefighters were working through the night to bring a fire at a derelict building in Grays under control.

Crews were first called to Flint Street shortly after 6pm on Wednesday, where a single storey building was fully alight.

Ten fire crews have been called to the scene, using four jets and an aerial ladder platform to tackle the blaze.

The gas and electricity board have been requested to isolate supplies.

At 11pm, five fire appliances remained at the incident, continuing to tackle the blaze.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

Essex Police and Essex Fire Service have launched a joint investigation.

A cordon was put in place around the scene to protect members of the public while firefighters tackled the blaze.

There was no-one inside the building, which has collapsed.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
