LABOUR’S parliamentary candidate for Thurrock has called on the borough’s Clinical Commissioning Group to call of its proposals to close the walk-in health centre in Grays High Street.

A consultation looking at future options for the Thurrock Health Centre suggests that closing the centre would save money and residents in place such as Corringham would be encouraged to visit their GP first, providing closer and quicker access to medical help.

Other options included in the consultation are keeping the service as it is, or opening for fewer hours. The GP practice at the centre wouldn’t be affected by a closure.

She said: “People across Thurrock value the walk-in service. It takes the pressure off A&E and meets a need when otherwise we have to wait weeks for a GP appointment. The process to shut it should stop - because it will have to be reversed if we have a Labour government in May.

“Labour’s plan to save the NHS includes stopping the closure of walk-in services. Voting Labour in May will make sure the GP hubs go ahead and our walk-in service is protected.”
