UKIP’s parliamentary candidate for Thurrock Tim Aker has backed leader Nigel Farage’s controversial comments that race equality laws should be scrapped.

In an interview to be aired next week, Mr Farage said that the laws in the workplace were no longer necessary and should be abolished.

In the interview, Mr Farage said: "I think the situation that we now have, where an employer is not allowed to choose between a British-born person and somebody from Poland, is a ludicrous state of affairs.

"I would argue that the law does need changing, and that if an employer wishes to choose, or you can use the word 'discriminate' if you want to, but wishes to choose to employ a British-born person, they should be allowed to do so."

The comments have come in for heavy criticism from Prime Minister David Cameron, who labelled them as “deeply concerning”. Mr Farage has since hit back and said his comments have been “wilfully misinterpreted” and that he was talking about nationality, not race.

But Mr Aker, also a Thurrock councillor and MEP, has backed his leader and said that British jobs should be for British workers.

Mr Aker said: “It is quite clear that Nigel Farage is the only party leader to say loudly and proudly that we should put our own people first. British jobs should be for British workers first and foremost. That is something that I know Thurrock people support and want to see.

“Brits of all backgrounds need to know their MP will put them first above anyone else and that is what Nigel Farage and UKIP are saying. The public are the masters and politicians are meant to be the servants.

“As usual, we have the typical outrage from the politically correct establishment Labour and Tories who have both opened the door to uncontrolled immigration and both support maintaining mass immigration inside the European Union.

“Here in Thurrock, jobs and housing should go to Thurrock people first and foremost. It is quite clear from the reaction to Nigel Farage’s comments that now only UKIP believes in Britain and all the British people.”
