Victims of the Holocaust will be remembered by lighting candles on January 27 in Grays.

Seventy years ago, on January 27 1945, Soviet forces liberated the Nazi death camps at Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Thurrock Council and Thurrock Faith Matters are putting on two 'Keep the Memory Alive' services for the International Holocaust Day.

The first will be at High View Memorial Gardens in Grays at 11am and is open to the public.

The second is to honour the memory of the victims of the Bosnian conflict that were evacuated in 1995, many of whom were cared for in Orsett Hospital.

A Bosnian family will light the first candle at the One Stop shop in Orsett Road, Grays.

The candle-lighting ceremony will take place from 4pm and 5.30pm and can be booked with tickets from www.HMD2015.eventbrite.co.uk.
