THIS week, Hayley Goldsmith, owner of OMG! Hair extensions, 07475 429529, and Elaine Rogocki, proprietor of HoneyComb Hair Salon, of Fobbing Road, Corringham, tell us why they love it here...

Q: What do you love about Thurrock?

A: We have both lived here all our lives and still enjoy all the surrounding areas, and continue to enjoy the wonderful community spirit. There’s lots of opportunity for employment, leisure and access to major cities without going to far away from home. With thanks to the local residents and Thurrock community, Honeycomb has received three local business awards over the past 18 years.

Q: What has kept you here?

A: We have stayed inThurrock for our wonderful family and friends, who have also lived here most of their lives, and also because there have always been exciting job prospects and opportunities.

Q: How do you see the future for your business in the borough?

A: We see the possibilities for expansion due to the prosperity of the local area, which is very exciting for future employees of the salon business. We also feel the hair and beauty industry in Thurrock is constantly growing with popular TV shows and celebrities based in Essex, giving people like us a reason to grow as hair stylists and hair extension specialists, Q: How do you think other parts of Essex see Thurrock?

A: As a central base for social events and encouraging outstanding education.

Q: What advice would you give to people wanting to set up their own business in the borough?

A: Research the area for your type of business and source expert knowledge. Gain support from local business people and run ideas past friends, family and others working in the area.

Q: What made you start your business here?

A: Hairdressing is our passion, it fitted in with both our family commitments and opportunities arose for us to work alongside each other. HoneyComb Hair Salon can now offer OMG! Hair extensions by Hayley.

Q: What involvement with the community does the business have?

A: We offer free treatments and donations to schools, fundraising events and local charities that are close to our hearts and are always willing to offer free services and discounts for raffle prizes.

Q: What is your favourite bit about the Gazette?

A: We like to read opinions on the letters page from local residents regarding events. We also like to read the leisure pages, which list local events, to find out what’s going on and plan days out. It’s also nice to see how well Thurrock has brought fun and excitement through leisure to our community.
