STAFF and students at Gable Hall School are celebrating after it achieved an overall “good” rating from Ofsted... although the sixth form has been ordered to improve.

The academy, in Southend Road, Corringham, scored an overall good rating in four categories including Achievement of pupils, Quality of teaching, Behaviour and safety of Pupils and Leadership and management.

However, the sixth form, which is a collaboration between Gable Hall, Hassenbrook Academy and St Clere's has been ordered to improve.

According to the report, too many students, particularly in Year 12, have not received the right support and guidance to do well on the courses they choose.

The Headteacher of the school, Dr Sophina Asong, has chosen to focus on the positives of the report.

She said: “We are delighted with the report. It highlights the excellent progress that has been achieved here at Gable Hall School over the last few years.

“This report is yet another accolade to the achievements of our students, staff and parents.”

The report also highlighted many positives including good GCSE results in English Language, Maths, Statistics and Drama.

Dr Asong added: “We are delighted that the report points out the particular strengths of the school as being that children join in Year 7 with average standards, make excellent progress and leave with results well above average and that children enjoy coming to school and are safe and happy at Gable Hall School.

“This is what parents want their local school to do for them and we are doing that tremendously well.

“We are glad that it acknowledges that teaching is highly effective and has improved, that we use the Pupil Premium funding to excellent effect to close gaps.”

In April, the academy was placed in the top 20 per cent of schools in the country for progress its pupils undergo during their years there.
