TEENAGE twins from Purfleet have made it through to the next round of a songwriting competition.
Scarlett and Laurel Jumeau, 16, of Purfleet High Street, were tasked with writing a song based on inspiration and achievement for the Jack Petchey Foundation’s 15th Anniversary Anthem Challenge.
Entitled Today, the melody is played on guitar, xylophone and shaker to accompany the girls’ harmonious voices and the song is on a shortlist of eight.

Should the girls win the competition, they will get to record their song in a leading London studio and perform it at the Jack Petchey Foundation’s Festival of Youth in the spring.
The celebratory event will bring together young people from across London and Essex to mark the charity’s birthday.
Scarlett and Laurel, pictured, along with other hopefuls, will now receive mentoring from three industry experts before rerecording their anthem with the hope of making it through to the final public vote.
After attending a boot camp, the youngsters will have three weeks to rework their songs before the entries get whittled down to a final four.
