Thurrock Gazette: Ava, six, beats the rest to earn big cookie prize Ava, six, beats the rest to earn big cookie prize

A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl has won a giant biscuit in a health challenge.

Ava Mitchell, a pupil at Shaw Primary Academy, South Ockendon, won the Millie’s Cookies treat in Thurrock Council’s Beat the Street challenge, in which residents score points and win prizes by walking or cycling and tapping cards on sensors on 104 lamp-posts.

Since June 11, players have clocked up more than 50,000 miles – twice the original target – and still have almost two weeks before the game ends to continue their healthy lifestyle and win prizes.

Tomorrow (Friday), this figure will be given a boost when Trevor Rawson, of Tai Chi for Health (Essex), in Silverlocke Road, Grays, begins his own challenge at midnight.

He will be tapping every sensor in the borough in one session by walking, jogging and cycling a distance of 67 miles to raise money for Sugarloaf Riding for the Disabled, based in Chadwell St Mary.

Other spot prize winners this week, aprt from Ava, have walked away with Procter & Gamble hampers worth £150, Body Shop foot spas, a month’s learning at Explore Learning Lakeside and Partyman family vouchers.

The Beat the Street Thurrock team will be at Chafford Hundred Sainsbury’s on Saturday with an extra sensor to help players raise points or join the game.
