AN OFF duty medic from Plymouth rushed to the aid of a Grays woman after she was hit by a car.

The 57-year-old woman was walking along the central reservation of the A414, near Hylands House, close to where the Cancer Research Race for Life event was taking place on Sunday.

She was heading from Chelmsford towards the A12 at around 11.20am when was struck by a VW Polo being driven by a 21-year-old man from Beconsfield, Bucks.

The woman was given immediate emergency aid by the medic. She suffered head injuries and was taken to Queen’s Hospital, Romford where she is currently in a stable condition.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash and in particular are urging the driver of a white car seen to swerve out of the way to come forward.

Around 4,500 women were at the nearby Hylands House for the Race for Life event on Sunday.
