A MAN tried to rob a Purfleet post office with a spud gun...but left empty handed.

The bungling thief, kitted out in a blue and grey hoodie tracksuit, with a scarf tied round his face, entered the post office on Garrison Parade at around 2.30pm on April 24.

He pointed the plastic gun, described as a spud gun, at the shop keeper, demanding money.

But his calls fell on deaf ears as the shop keeper simply ignored him.

The would-be robber then ran out of the store empty handed.

Detectives are appealing for more information about the incident and are urging anyone who was in the area at the time to get in touch.

The suspect is described as white, about 5ft 10ins tall, wearing a grey/blue hoodie tracksuit and with a grey scarf covering his face.

Anyone with information should contact CID detectives at Grays Police Station on 101.
