STUDENTS have been planting trees to keep their school green and healthy.
Pupils from The Gateway Academy planted more than 40 Silver Birch trees inside their perimeter fence with a little help from the Essex Wildlife Trust and community volunteers.
The academy carried out the exercise having received a share of a community grant from The Tree Council.
The trees are hoped to minimise noise and reduce pollution in the school grounds by up to 50 per cent.
Mayor Tony Fish said: “I applaud the students and staff of The Gateway Academy on their innovative approach to providing an environment that is pleasant with less pollution and traffic noise. I am sure that this new environment will blossom and develop in the same way as the delightful pupils of the Academy.”
