A POPULAR hospice shop has re-opened in Grays High Street - giving bargain hunters twice the reason to visit.

St Luke’s Hospice opened its doors last Monday after its former and smaller shops in High Street and Clarence Road closed.

The new store has replaced Blockbuster after it closed six months ago.

It is more than twice as big as the two former shops. Bosses think the new base, as well as the location, will give it a bolder high street presence. There have been no job losses.

David Emery, head of retail development at St Luke’s, said: “St. Luke’s has a long history of trading in Grays and has always received amazing support.

“This new unit has the potential to do all that, and due to its prominent position and size we are hoping to increase trade.

“We are delighted with how the shop has turned out.”

There are also St Luke’s Hospice shops in South Ockendon, Tilbury and Corringham.

The shop opening hours are between 9am and 4.30pm Monday to Saturday and it will be selling a whole range of donated items including, clothing, china, books, electrical items, furniture and more.

Julie Smith, shop manager, said: “We are always looking for quality donations which can be brought into the shop at any time we are open and if you are delivering items by car you can pull up right outside before 10am.

“We are also looking for volunteers to help if you are able to assist then please call 01375 387400.”
