A COMMUNITY event looks to be bigger and better than ever before this year.

The Horndon Feast and Fayre weekend will be held on Saturday, June 29, and Sunday, June 30, in the village of Horndon-on-the Hill.

There are already more than 100 entrants signed up online for the Horndon 10k fun run this year – higher than usual at this point.

Organisers expect to reach the maximum number of entrants for this popular run.

The traditional Feast and Fayre weekend dates back to the 13th century, when the village was granted a Royal Charter to hold a celebration on the last weekend in June. The event was revived in 1974 when about a dozen runners attempted the first ever Horndon 10k run.

Volunteers are still needed to help marshal the 10k route, organised by the Rotary Club of Thur-rock Gateway.

It takes place at 11am on Sunday, June 30, during the Feast and Fayre weekend.

Entry forms can be obtained by post from P. Hills, Soutra, Central Avenue, Stanford-le-Hope, Essex SS17 8HQ. Entrance costs £10 or £12 and there is a late entry fee of £3 after June 23.
