This live event has finished

  • Aveley 2 - 0 Tilbury
  • Ryman League Cup
  • Millfield
  • Jordan Cox, Paul Burnett, Junior Dadson and Junior Appiah start in a strong Millers line-up.
  • Danny Francis, Jack Stevenson and Joe Nightinghill start for the visitors

So Aveley hang on in the dying moments!

Two goals from Appiah are enough to see the home side win this Thurrock derby.

A goal either side of half time, the first a super diving header, the second a ball scrambled over the line after some great play by Dadson.

After that goal, Aveley could have had more. They created chance after chance as Dockers reverted to three at the back, but Appiah missed the best chance Millers had of truly killing the game off.

With ten minutes to go, Wilson was deemed to have handled in the box and Barnett scored from the spot.

Tilbury enjoyed a strong finish, with Giddens making two great stops and Wraight hitting the post. But Aveley clinched it and go into the next round of the cup!

Tilbury have it again and are working the ball down the right. Ball is into the box and Tom Wraight hits the post! The angle was slightly against him, but Dockers worked the ball out to him and he shot across goal.

The ball bounced out to Barnes whose effort on the rebound is saves by Giddens.

Frantic finish!

Three added minutes. Aveley have the ball in the Tilbury corner. Cox wriggles into the box and forces Marrable to save at his near post.

Smashing save by Giddens! The ball drops in the box and Stanley looks certain to score. He leathers a half-volley at goal from 8 yards, but Giddens comes out to block the ball.

Aveley holding firm. Their winning the 50/50s on this nearside.

Game's back underway. There's about four minutes to play and four minutes for Dockers to nab an equaliser.

If they do, it goes straight to penalties.

Nothing to report in the last few minutes. Luke Wilson is receiving treatment and Aiken and Victor Renner are squabbling.

Luke Wilson judged to have handled in the area. It's close, but left hand did look to go out.

Barnett stepped up to coolly send Giddens the wrong way and give Dockers a life-line.

Game on with 10 to play.

GOAL! Aveley 2 - 1 TILBURY - Joel Barnett, 79'

Penalty to Dockers!

Burnett receiving treatment now after his own shot rebounded off of Poole's foot, clattering Burnett in the face.

He's cominig off for Liam Francis now.

Great chance for Dadson. Great header down by Cox and Dadson bursts through on goal. His cheeky attempt to lob the keeper fails though and Tilbury escape.

Dockers really struggling to deal with the pace of Burnett, Cox, Dadson and Appiah.

As Cox goes through this time, rounds Marrable but again, the angle is against him and he can't turn the ball in.

Jack Stevenson is booked for Dockers.

And another chance. This time for Burnett, who times his run well. He rounds the keeper but narrows the angle and can't quite slide the ball home.

Just minutes later, Aveley have a chance for a third. Burnett is set off, he bears down at goal, pulls the ball across to Appiah. He's running at pace and squanders the chance for his hattrick, prodding wide from six yards.

Another for Aveley and another for Appiah. Great stuff.

Junior Dadson takes on Pooley, beats him, gets to the touchline and picks Appiah out witha cross. It's scrambled in by the winger to double Millers lead.

Mountain to climb now for Vaughan's men.

GOAL! AVELEY 2 - 0 Tilbury - Appiah

Emiel Aiken coming on for Dockers now. He replaces Tony Jacob.

The game's come to life a little! Tilbury pour forward this time Tony Jacobs turns in the box and fires a shot from 10 yards, but spins past the post.

And minutes later, Cox heads over from almost underneath the cross bar!

Tilbury go to three at the back and immediately their exposed. Paul Burnett picks up Giddens throw out and charges at the defence.

It's four on three with Dadson, Cox and Appiah all making runs, but Burnett opts to go it alone and his shot trickles into the arms of Marrable.

Jack Carlile coming on for Tilbury. Joe Nightinghill comes off!

It's dummied by the first man, travels right through the middle, but no one can tap it in.

Free kick in a dangerous area for Dockers. Their first chance of the half. Wraight's over it.

Jacobs is booked for a late challenge on Burnett.

Gardner shrieks: "Their tactics are just to kick the s*** out of us."

DADSON HITS THE POST. Marrable half cleared a long ball that Cox was chasing. It landed at the feet of Dadson who took a touch and unleashed a shot as Marrable got back to his line. Dadson's shot clattered off the inside of the post.

Good early start by Millers as Dadson marauds down the right, but Marrable collects his cross.

We're underway in the second half.

Big effort needed by the visitors.

So Junior Appiah's 37th minute diving header is the difference. There's little else to separate the sides. Tilbury have done ok but never really looked like scoring.

Cox has had a few headers caught easily. Appiah has screwed one good effort well wide early in the half. But there's little else of note. Barnett has worked hard up front, but Giddens hasn't had to make a save.

Half time!

It goes short, then across, but the ball by Burnett is poor.

Late corner for Aveley... Burnett coming over to take it.

Long throw in by Sands, but again Cox can't get a strong enough head on it.

Great goal by Aveley.

Millers defended a dangerous free-kick and then sprung off on the counter attack. Dadson burst down the left, with Appiah screaming down the middle and screaming for the ball. Dadson played the ball across and Appiah connected with a diving header from 6 yards to give the men in blue the lead.

GOAL! AVELEY 1 - 0 Tilbury - Appiah

Aveley have the ball in the back of the net, but it doesn't count. It's Appiah, but where Junior Dadson delayed playing the ball across, Appiah was offside.

Justin Gardner has just been told to calm down by the linesman. He gets very animated!

Great pressure high up the pitch by Dockers sees them win the ball off Aveley. Henty picks out Stanley whose pull back aimed at Barnett is just deflected behind. Millers then deal with the corner.

Marrables' goal kick isn't any better as it flies straight out. Aveley can come at the visitors again. And this time Tilbury deal well.

Sellears has a shot blocked, but a cross seconds later goes straight out.

Burnett wins a free kick in a dangerous area for Millers. It's left hand side of the box, great crossing position. Awful ball, straight out, from Sellears.

Great positioning from Nightinghill as he intercepts three Aveley passes in the space of 20 seconds.

As the ball then goes up the park, before coming back into Dockers' danger area, where Cox goes close with a header just over the bar.

Great ball in from Wraight. Three Tilbury players go for it and the ball stays out. One might have turned it in, but Millers can clear.

Corner for Tilbury now after a good first contribution from Stanley.

Sherwin Stanley is going to come on for Dockers.

He's not going to be able to continue. Not sure how bad it is, but either way, Vaughan and Ross won't want to take any chances.

Quite a healthy crowd here at Millfield. Not as many as there would normally be at a Thurrock derby, but for a Monday night, early round League Cup tie, it's ok.

Francis getting some treatment to the back of his thigh now.

Mistake by Wraight allows Burnett some time down the left. Some good skill from him earns Dockers a corner, but again Tilbury deal with it.

Close first 15 here. Aveley have had the better of few chances though.

Horribly scuffed goal kick from Giddens goes out for a throw by the corner flag (well, not far from!) inviting Tilbury into some attacking territory.

But Dockers fail to capitalise.

The corner's well dealt with and a long ball picks out Appiah who, with just the keeper to beat and the Dockers defender in his wake, lashes the ball wide.

Then a long free kick by Barnes is flicked towards his own goal by Wilson, with Giddens a long way off his line. Fortunately for both, the ball loops wide.

Another headed chance for Cox is easily collected by Marrable. This time Sellears ball into the back post is met with a little more force by the Millers striker, but Marrable again makes easy work of it.

First chance on goal comes from the home side. Great corner in from the right by Burnett, Cox gets up well but can't get enough purchase on his header and Marrable gathers.

Barnett looking lively up-top for Dockers. He'll be in the mood for it today after a few games out. Had been in a rich vein of form before being sent off against Grays.

Lively start to the game. Both sides look keen to get at one another early.

We're off here!

So Dockers top-scorer Francis starts up-top with Barnett, who is looking to get back in the swing of things after a suspension.

Jack Stevenson starts for Tilbury along with a plethora of other ex-Millers players.

It's not far from being a full strength side. Paul King misses out with a damaged calf.

Millers have Saturday's hat-trick hero Shane Oakley bon the bench if needed. But again, Aveley have fielded a strong side. Jay Leader, Mark Sontag are rested in defence.

The teams then. And both have named strong starting XIs:

Aveley, fresh from a 5-0 obliteration of promotion rivals Potters Bar Town line up like this:

Giddens; Sonuga, Nesbitt, Sands, Wilson; Hopkins, Dadson, Sellears, Appiah; Cox, Burnett

Subs: Rose, Oakley, Kamara, Liam Francis

Tilbury, after a tough game at home to Maldon and Tiptree on Saturday, line up like this:

Marrable; Mead, Barnes, Pooley, Nightinghill; Henty, Jacobs, Stevenson, Wraight; Barnett, Francis

Subs: Carlile, Stanley, Aiken, Llewellyn, Edwards

So it's a bit chilly and West Ham are on the tele.

But hang on. There's an absolute humdinger of a Thurrock derby just ten minutes from kick off at Millfield.

It's Aveley vs Tilbury. It's Ryman League Cup. Welcome! You've made a good choice!
