A FREE screening of the opera Sun and Heir is taking place at the Thameside Theatre in Grays on Friday.

Described at the people’s opera, Sun and Heir was a joint production between the Royal Opera House and the Thurrock community, staged at Tilbury Cruise Terminal in July 2008.

The screening is an opportunity for residents in Thurrock to see the production, and celebrate the achievements of the 500 people from the borough who took part in the project.

Students, young offenders, primary school children, council workers, families and residents from housing estates were all involved in its creation, helping with the sets, storylines, music and costumes.

A 12-month touring exhibition launched in December 2008 featuring designs, props, costumes and artwork from the production will also be available to view at the Thameside.

The doors open at 7pm, and the screening begins at 8pm.

The free tickets must be booked by calling 0845 300 5264.
