THERE'S a perfect party dress out there for everyone. Angela Poplett, Lakeside’s Personal Shopper, is here to help you find your ultimate style, shape and colour.

“Different dresses suit different body shapes, so make sure you pick a style that will make the most of what you’ve got.

“Skater dresses, for example, are great for pear shapes. They hide the hips and bottom but accentuate the legs, and their nipped-in waists highlight your upper body. There’s a beautiful teal, one shoulder skater dress by TFNC in House of Fraser (£36) at the moment that’s perfect.

“If you’re heavier on top with broad shoulders (sometimes referred to as an inverted triangle), avoid adding volume; instead draw attention downwards from the hip. Lakeside’s Jane Norman has a dress with a plain black top and vertically striped maxi skirt (£35) which will elongate the lower half of your body.

“For those blessed with an hourglass figure, the trick is to really show off your curves. Dorothy Perkins at Lakeside has a beautiful bright red dress for £38 with cap sleeves, a cinched waist and pencil skirt that ticks all of the boxes.

“Finally, if you’ve been told you’re an apple shape, don’t be scared to go short and show off your slim legs (you can always add some opaque tights). Lakeside’s Monsoon and Coast stores have many of the best dresses for this shape, with long sleeve versions that draw attention away from the tummy.

“For that final touch, accessorise with black instead of silver or gold. Add texture with a black feathered clutch bag (£32) from River Island or black sequin and beaded jewellery from Accessorize.”
