LAKESIDE completed a quick-fire double over Leicester with a crushing 56-33 away win at Beaumont Park.

Just 24 hours after defeating the Lions at the Arena-Essex Raceway, the Vortex Hammers stormed to another convincing victory to claim all four Elite League points.

It was a magnificent night for the Purfleet outfit as they made it three wins out of four in 2016 to strengthen their early position at the top of the table.

Coach Kelvin Tatum was full of praise for his side after a hugely impressive performance on their travels.

“I was a little concerned that Leicester might come out all guns blazing after their defeat against us last night, but full credit to the team," said Tatum.

“They showed great determination and it was a tremendous team effort to come away with an emphatic win.

“It’s been a very encouraging start to the season for us. There is plenty of spirit being shown in the team, I think that is epitomised by Piotr Swiderski who has bounced back from a couple of nasty crashes to keep winning races.

“There were points coming from all areas of the team which was pleasing to see, and we will go into our two meetings against Poole next week in very good spirits.”

Andreas Jonsson and Richard Lawson stormed to faultless paid maximums to lead the Vortex Hammers to victory, with Grand Prix ace Jonsson making it 13 successive Elite League races without being defeated by an opposing rider.

Swedish racer Kim Nilsson continued his bright start to the season as he dropped just one point from four riders, whilst Piotr Swiderski and Lewis Bridger both claimed race wins against their former club.

Reserve Lewis Kerr put in a solid performance against a strong Leicester lower order pairing – and although Robert Mear endured a tough night, the visitors still emerged with a comfortable triumph.

After getting their campaign off to a confident start, Lakeside will now face their toughest test of 2016 so far as they take on Poole at Wimborne Road on Wednesday, before hosting the title favourites at the Arena-Essex Raceway on Friday.
