AVELEY ended a run of three successive defeats by beating in-form Mildenhall Town.

James Webster's side travelled to Recreation Way having not claimed a point since the turn of the year.

But the Millers were able to return to Parkside with all three points after securing a 2-1 win.

Lewis Gard opened the scoring by notching his first goal in Aveley colours.

Russell Malton got to the by-line before pulling the ball back to Gard, who poked his 17th minute effort through a crowded six-yard box and into the back of the net.

And the Millers doubled their lead thanks to Alex Teniola's 36th minute header.

Claudio Ofuso netted late on to make for a nervy final five minutes for Aveley, but the visitors held on.

Meanwhile, Kieran Bishop was at the double as Grays Athletic saw off AFC Sudbury.

Jamie Stuart was looking for a reaction from his side after the Essex Senior Cup quarter-final defeat to Romford in midweek.

And the 3-1 win at Parkside means that Grays remain just six points off the Isthmian North play-off places.

Bishop, who scored twice in the draw with Heybridge Swifts last week, scored three minutes before the break with a superb curling effort from 25 yards out.

And Adeyinka Cole gave Grays a two-goal cushion by slotting home from the penalty spot soon after the interval.

Billy Holland pulled a goal back for the visitors just past the hour mark, but Bishop netted in the dying moments to complete the scoring.

Elsewhere, Thurrock and Tilbury suffered defeats.

Mark Stimson's Fleet lost 2-0 to Isthmian Premier League high-flyers Staines Town.

Lewis Driver and Ben Martin got on the scoresheet in the second half at Ship Lane to condemn Thurrock to their first reverse of 2018.

And Witham Town beat Tilbury 3-0 at Chadfields.

Correy Davidson netted twice and Elliott Ronto scored the other goal in a rampant first half performance from the visitors.

But neither side could find the back of the net following the break.
