AVELEY suffered a second consecutive defeat as James Webster’s side were beaten 3-1 by Haringey Borough.

Chinedu McKenzie, Lauren Luke and Ralston Gabriel scored the play-off hopefuls’ goals, while Chris Bourne’s effort proved to be no more than a consolation at Parkside.

The Millers went into the Isthmian North encounter having suffered a 5-0 defeat to Maldon & Tiptree just 48 hours earlier.

And Aveley nearly fell behind early on as McKenzie struck the inside of the post before hitting home goalkeeper Rhys Madden, but the ball failed to find the back of the net.

However, Haringey moved into the lead midway through the first half when McKenzie rounded off a fine counter-attack.

And Boro doubled their advantage on 33 minutes, as Luke’s impressive chip beat Madden.

Haringey should have taken a three-goal lead into half-time, but were denied by the linesman’s flag.

Rakim Richards’ strike was goalbound when a team-mate tapped home from an offside position and the goal was ruled out.

Bourne halved the deficit just past the hour mark when the former Canvey Island full-back curled into the top corner of the net.

But Aveley’s hopes of completing a comeback were ended 60 seconds later when the referee awarded the visitors a penalty.

Gabriel stepped up and sent his spot-kick past Madden via the post.

The defeat leaves the Millers in 15th place in the Isthmian North standings.
