TILBURY logged a Mason Trophy win at the weekend with an emphatic 48-29 victory over Whiteknights from Reading.

The event was the zone final of the Ladies 2 rink Over 60’s competition.

The rink at home was skipped by Tilbury’s Delia Searle, supported by Jenny Barnes, Iris Rawlins and Jan Byford. They started well and were 14 shots up at ten ends and 12 shots up at 18 ends. They eventually won by 11 shots.

Elaine Scarborough skipped the away rink, with team of Carole Riley, Ann Score, and Maureen Roberts.

They found the rink at Reading very tricky and were six down after five ends and nine down at 15 ends. But then they found their form and with excellent bowling, scored 17 shots over the last six ends, to win by eight shots.

It was an excellent show by all the Tilbury Ladies who won overall by nineteen shots.

They now go on to play Cambridge Chesterton in the quarter finals of this national competition.

l Men’s Over 60’s County League: Tilbury ‘A’ 6, Rayleigh 0. This was a ding dong battle at Tilbury, although they started well, Rayleigh settled to the carpet, it was very close, 10 all at ten ends and 16 all at 17 ends.

John Watson, playing three, turning the head round in Tilbury’s favour time after time.

A five score on the 20th end put them five up, then they lost a four score to win by just one shot.

Away, Tilbury’s experienced team soon adjusted to Rayleigh’s carpet, scoring freely, three up at ten ends, 13 up at 18 ends, and winning excellently by nineteen shots.
