Essex League Div 1 Brightlingsea 23, Pegasus Palmerians 18 RUGBY: Saturday saw Pegasus play away to Brightlingsea.

Peg didn’t have the best of starts when they had to play into a very strong wind.

Brightlingsea started the scoring off early with a controversial try being awarded as many players and spectators thinking the scorer had been in touch, but the referee gave Brightlingsea the ‘benefit of the doubt’.

Nethertheless Brightlingsea took advantage of the wind and scored another try and converted a penalty to make the halftime score 13-0. The second half started with Pegasus, who had been very dominant in the line out losing one, which saw Brightlingsea use a training ground move to make the score 18-0.

Pegasus weren’t prepared to lie down and came back hard with a try by Wayne Collier being disallowed as the referee didn’t see the ball grounded.

Pegasus carried on hitting Brightlingsea’s try line and with a string of penalties been given, the referee had no choice but to give Pegasus a penalty try.

Pegasus knew they could get back into the game and with Brightlingsea losing their discipline.

This gave Greg Bramwell chance to convert two penalties to draw the score level 18 all.

In an exciting end to the game Brightlingsea scored an unconverted breakaway try, with Pegasus dropping the ball over Brightlingsea’s tryline in the last play of the game.
