BLUES boss Paul Sturrock was pleased by the result but not the performance at Hereford United on Saturday.

The 53-year-old Scotsman was delighted to see his side fight back to win 3-1 at Edgar Street.

But he felt the display did not match those against Northampton Town and Morecambe, which both ended in defeat.

“I think we played better in our last two games than we did against Hereford to be honest, but that’s football,” said Sturrock.

“We tightened up at the back and the boys also showed composure to come back from conceding an early goal, which was good.

“Second half we knew we would have to up it and go through the gears and when we did that we got the goals which was very pleasing.”

Both Barry Corr and Blair Sturrock were among Southend’s goalscorers.

And the Blues manager was buoyed by seeing both of his strikers hit the back of the net.

“It was nice they both got goals and it’s vital for their confidence,” said Sturrock.

“Lots of people are looking at the sharp end of our team and the criticism is that we don’t have a 20-goal a season striker.

“But Barry has got four now and if he keeps that going he will be close to that.

“He was also a completely different player against Hereford.

“I had a conversation with him in the week because I was disappointed by his last couple of performances but he was copletely different this time.

“He held the ball up really well.
