Anyone with ideas that Rocks will concede second spot to Concord Rangers without a fight can think again.
They may be six points behind their rivals from Canvey, but East Thurrock came back from being 2-0 down to win this seven-goal thriller at Northwood in great style.
Rocks still have to play Concord twice, but their hopes of making those games vital looked unlikely when two Kyle Matthews’ strikes gave the hosts a 2-0 lead after only 15 minutes.
The division’s top scorer Sam Higgins reduced the arrears on 51 minutes with a deflected free-kick and Kye Ruel levelled two minutes later.
Max Cornhill put Rocks in front with a spectacular 58th-minute volley, but Matthew levelled when he completed his hat-trick on 77 minutes.
But an own goal from Michael Peacock in the closing stages ensured Rocks went home with the points and runners-up spot still in their grasp.
