AN angling open day is being organised by Essex Disabled Angling Club at Coleman's Cottage Fisheries in Witham, on Saturday, May 24.
The open day aims to give people with disabilities the opportunity to try angling, existing members to improve their skills and to attract more able-bodied volunteers.
Last year many new and existing anglers came to the day with some of them achieving a personal best.
Colin Holland, Chairman of EDAC said: "Last year was a very successful, enjoyable event and we hope that even more people will join us this year.
"It's a great way for people with disabilities to try a new activity and decide if angling is for them. It gets them out into the countryside with their carers and is an opportunity to socialise with other like-minded people.
"We also want to encourage more fisheries to improve disabled access at their venues."
The event is free and all equipment and bait is supplied. Qualified coaches will also be on hand to assist newcomers. Hot food and drinks will be available on the day and there is plenty of disabled parking and disabled toilets. There will also be fun events including a tombola and raffle plus a casting and darts competition.
