BILLERICAY Town boss Jamie O’Hara insists Jai Reason will be the first of ‘four or five really good players’ joining the club.

Reason has made the move to New Lodge from National League side Dover Athletic.

And O’Hara is thrilled to have the 30-year-old midfielder on board.

“It’s fantastic,” said O’Hara.

“Jai’s someone who played a lot of games in the league above last season.

“He’s got a fantastic knowledge of the game, he can create and he was really keen to come on board too.

“I’m really happy to get him over the line and he’s a big signing for us.

“It’s the first of many signings too, we’re bringing in four or five really good players.”

However, Reason is the first to put pen to paper and O’Hara is confident he will make a big impression in National South next season.

“Jai organises from the front,” said O’Hara.

“He can play number 10, he can play in midfield or off the left but I’ve brought him in really as a number 10.

“He’s fantastic at holding the ball up but he can also see a pass.

“What we struggled with last season was that final ball in that final area to put one of the strikers in.

“Jai will bring that and he’s also good from set pieces so I’m really happy to have him on board.”

And O’Hara is confident Reason will be part of an improved Billericay side.

“We want to take the club forward and the whole aim is to get promoted,” said the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder.

“Whether that’s this season or next season there’s no timescale on it but we’re looking strong and we’re looking to have a great season.”

Billericay were 18th in the standings when the campaign was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But O’Hara believes a new 3G pitch will ensure Billericay are far higher next time around.

“The pitch was our biggest downfall last season and it was a big problem,” said O’Hara.

“Games were getting called off with boys travelling a long way and we couldn’t train so it killed our momentum. Now we’re guaranteed a fantastic pitch and we can’t wait to get back.”
