BASILDON United booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Essex Thameside Trophy by sealing a 3-1 victory over White Ensign.
Although Ayo Odukoya's second half spot-kick cancelled out Joe Staunton's opener for the Bees, Staunton completed his brace and captain Adam Vyse rounded off the scoring.
Basildon had to wait until the stroke of half-time to make the breakthrough at Burroughs Park.
Following some neat footwork, Staunton was able to find the back of the net.
However, White Ensign levelled matters just five minutes after the interval as the referee awarded a penalty and Odukoya, who left the Bees last month, tucked home from 12 yards against his former club.
But the Bees restored their slender advantage soon after as Staunton doubled his tally for the evening having been found by Vyse.
And, having provided the second goal, Vyse added his name to the scoresheet with just two minutes remaining to ensure the Isthmian North side would not suffer an upset at the hands of Eastern Counties League Division One South high-flyers White Ensign.
Basildon are set to host the winners of the second round tie involving Hullbridge Sports and Hornchurch in the quarter-finals.
