CONCORD Rangers manager Danny Scopes felt poor finishing led to his side’s ‘frustrating day’ against Weymouth, writes Theo Beevers.

The Beach Boys were beaten 2-1 at the Aspect Arena in a National League South contest.

And Scopes was disappointed not to pose the visitors more problems.

“I don’t think their goalie had to make a real save,” said Scopes.

“We had a couple of half chances around the penalty box and got in good areas but we maybe just didn’t have that final pass to get ourselves a goal.”

But Scopes was also keen to try and remain positive after Concord suffered just their second home defeat in eight games.

“I think the fact that I’m frustrated is probably a positive because it shows how far we’ve come and I can flip that into a positive,” added Scopes.

“We have to remember what we are and who we are and the resources that we have as a football club.

“The fact I’m frustrated that we didn’t get a point shows how far we’ve come - I can flip it into a positive really.”

After a quiet start, the encounter sprung to life courtesy of a crucial save from Concord goalkeeper Chris Haigh.

Yemi Odubade received a threaded pass and found himself one-on-one with the custodian but Haigh leapt off his line and made himself big enough to stop the placed shot.

Concord immediately reacted with a golden opportunity of their own.

Kit Elliott danced through a static Weymouth defence, skipping past Mark Molesley’s men with ease.

However, the angle he created for himself was acute, leaving Callum Ward with the simple task of outstretching his leg to make the save.

An Odubade toe poked effort rolled past the far post from just six yards out in the 32nd minute but the visitors - who are fifth in the table - opened the scoring eight minutes later, with substitute Adbulai Baggie calmly firing home a clever Odubabe assist.

But, just nine minutes after the second half kicked off, Concord found their equaliser when a corner from Mickey O’Donoghue took multiple deflections off various different Weymouth defenders before somehow creeping over the goal-line.

Concord’s bliss at equalising would only last two minutes however, as Odubade finally grabbed his goal.

A pin-point pass to the back post found Odubade, who plucked the ball from out of the sky before sliding in a right-footed volley which deflected over Haigh and into the back of the net.

Concord’s only chance of an equaliser came in the 86th minute when an unbelievable long range effort from Kreshnic Krasniqi rattled the post.

But the defeat leaves the Beach Boys 11th in the table, wondering what else they could have done differently to earn a point.
