CANVEY Island and Great Wakering Rovers are set to do battle in an Isthmian League Cup derby tonight.

The two south Essex outfits will go head-to-head at the Gulls’ Park Lane.

And both managers are likely to make numerous changes to their sides after securing impressive Isthmian North home victories at the weekend.

Mark Bentley’s Canvey recorded a 2-1 win over neighbours Basildon United, while Wakering stopped Grays Athletic reaching the Isthmian North summit by recording a 3-1 triumph.

This will be the hosts’ second clash of the competition after lengthy FA Cup and FA Trophy runs resulted in postponements.

And Canvey will be hoping to record their first win as they lost on penalties to Hullbridge Sports on that occasion.

Wakering will be appearing in the Isthmian League Cup for the third time this term after a win over Witham Town was followed by a Basildon loss.

Elsewhere, Darren Manning’s Hullbridge Sports will welcome Tilbury to the Ryan’s Heating Stadium for an Isthmian League Cup group stage encounter.

This will be Sports’ fourth outing in the competition.

A penalty shoot-out triumph against Canvey and win over Witham allowed them to get the group stages off to a fine start before a loss to Basildon.
