LEE Minshull admits ‘the last thing we want to do is pick up injuries’ as Concord Rangers prepare for an action-packed weekend.

The Beach Boys are set to welcome Maidstone United to the Aspect Arena and will then make the trip to St Albans City 48 hours later.

Concord have made an impressive start to the National League South season, while Maidstone have registered just one win since suffering relegation from the top tier of non-league football.

And Minshull believes there are similarities between the two sides.

“They are like us in that they are in a transitional period and there has been a large turnover of players,” said Concord’s player-assistant manager.

“We have a plan in place as to how we want to play.

“We’ve got two interesting games over the course of the weekend because we go to St Albans City 48 hours later.

“Because of us having two games in quick succession, we will need to look at the personnel and manage the players.

“It’s difficult to know what we will do in terms of team selection because we want to go into games with the most in-form team.

“If it was a one-off game, rather than two in the space of 48 hours, we would definitely be doing that.

“But we have had a lot of games in a short space of time leading up to now and the last thing we want to do is pick up injuries.”

Minshull is currently sidelined with a toe injury.

But he is hoping to return in the coming weeks.

Minshull added: “Hopefully I’m not too far away from returning.

“I’ve started running again and I’ve got to take my time with it.

“The team doing so well has taken a bit of pressure off me.

“But it is frustrating for me because I still want to play.”

Having started the campaign with three consecutive wins, Concord have gone onto suffer a narrow defeat at Tonbridge Angels and throw away a two-goal lead as they drew at Dulwich Hamlet.

And Minshull was pleased to spend more time on the training pitch this week.

“It’s been a good week in terms of training,” admitted Minshull.

“We have not had many sessions with the players since the start of the season.

“But we have been working on some tactical stuff and we have prepared well for an action-packed weekend.

“The lads deserve a lot of credit for how well they have started the season.

“They have set such high standards and the fact that we have been a little bit disappointed with the last two results shows that.

“We are very pleased to have taken 10 points from the first 15 available and it’s all about building on that now.”
