THE funeral of Thurrock FC president George Brooks will take place on Wednesday, October 3, at 1pm with a service at St Margaret's Church, Castledon Road, Downham, Billericay.
Following this service the burial will be at Wickford Cemetery, Park Drive (off Nevenden Road), Wickford.
Mr Brooks died peacefully in the early hours of September 26 at Basildon Hospital, aged 76.
Although not a founder member of the club he had been with Fleet since its early days in the late 80s, becoming involved when his son Barry started to play for the club.
A club spokesperson said: "A very practical man, George came into his own in the close season. There cannot be many parts of the stadium where George's skills have not been put to good use.
"To George's wife Joyce, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren we offer our deepest sympathy. Everyone at Thurrock will sorely miss him."
