BASILDON United were made to settle for a goalless draw at AFC Sudbury as they began life without Marc Harrison.

Harrison, who was appointed the new manager of divisional rivals Tilbury yesterday, resigned as boss of the Bees last weekend.

And although caretaker manager Lee Connor was pleased to grab a point at Sudbury, he believes Basildon had enough chances to claim victory.

Connor said: “I am happy with a point after the week we had.

“Going into the game, we had a number of players who had joined us and made the step up from the Essex Senior League.

“It’s very hard to get them to gel together having only been together for a couple of training sessions.

“I was nervous ahead of the game, but I was also optimistic and we went there with a gameplan.

“We knew that Sudbury are a good side who can knock the ball about, so we needed to sit tight and stay together.

“But we had ample opportunities to win the game and we should have won by three or four goals.

“How Brian Moses came away without a hat-trick, I don’t know.

“We restricted them to just two chances and I’m really pleased with the boys that stepped in.”

Moses dragged an effort wide early on, while Ashley Pibworth was thwarted by home goalkeeper Paul Walker.

Aundre Spencer, who has joined from Essex Senior League high-flyers Hullbridge Sports, then sent an effort crashing against the crossbar as the Isthmian North encounter hit the half hour mark and Moses passed up another two opportunities before the interval.

Moses should have broken the deadlock less than 20 minutes after the restart, but the frontman wasted the chance.

Grant Webb’s snapshot was gathered by Walker as neither side could find the back of the net at the Wardale Williams Stadium and the Bees grabbed a share of the spoils.
