BOWERS & Pitsea remained top of the Isthmian North standings by seeing off the threat of Mildenhall Town.

Basildon United, meanwhile, were involved in a goalless draw at AFC Sudbury and Canvey Island lost at Heybridge Swifts.

Bowers & Pitsea 3-0 Mildenhall Town

A Lewis Manor brace, along with a David Knight goal, allowed Bowers & Pitsea to remain at the top of the Isthmian North and overcome Mildenhall Town.

The table-toppers opened the scoring just before the half hour mark. Knight’s corner was inadvertently punched onto the back of Manor’s head and ended up in the back of the net.

As the clash ticked into the 38th minute, Bowers reached 500 minutes without conceding a goal.

And Mildenhall were reduced to 10 men three minutes before the break as Thomas Boxer brought down Knight when the frontman was through on goal.

Mildenhall goalkeeper Blake Horton impressively stopped Jamie Dicks’ free-kick from finding the top corner, but Bowers were able to double their advantage on the stroke of half-time.

Manor headed home a Knight corner to give Bowers some breathing space at the Len Salmon Stadium.

And Knight added his name to the scoresheet 11 minutes after the interval as the striker raced onto Manor’s flick-on and coolly slotted home.

Manor then struck the crossbar as the club’s all-time record goalscorer went in search of his hat-trick.

Mildenhall were forced to play the final eight minutes with nine men as James Seymour was shown his second yellow card.

Tom Stephen was brilliantly denied by Horton late on, but three goals was enough for Bowers to continue their unbeaten start to the campaign.

AFC Sudbury 0-0 Basildon United

After a turbulent week for the club, Basildon United grabbed a valuable point at AFC Sudbury.

Chairman Lee Connor was in the dugout as the Bees made the trip to Suffolk without Marc Harrison, who resigned as manager after last weekend’s 4-0 defeat to Bowers & Pitsea, and a number of players who have since departed the club.

But the much changed side were able to clinch a point thanks to the goalless draw and the Bees are third in the Isthmian North standings.

Heybridge Swifts 2-1 Canvey Island

Canvey Island were put to the sword by Harrison Chatting as the former attacking midfielder grabbed what proved to be the winner for Heybridge Swifts at the Aspen Waite Arena.

Swifts, who are managed by ex-Gulls left-back Julian Dicks, went ahead on the half hour mark.

A ball over the top was collected by Matt Price, who created space for himself and sent a fine left-footed shot into the top corner of the net.

Frankie Merrifield was thwarted by Heybridge goalkeeper Chris Haigh before the break, while Jack Simmons was also denied.

Having been released down the right, Chatting doubled Swifts’ advantage three minutes after the break.

Harry Palmer stopped Kreshnic Krasniqi from adding his name to the scoresheet, while Price rattled the underside of the crossbar.

With 73 minutes on the clock, Jake Jolliffe halved the deficit to give Canvey hope.

But Haigh was in fine form to frustrate Merrifield and Jordan Cox, which stopped the visitors claiming a share of the spoils.
