Every East Thurrock fan knew if we lost against newly-promoted Slough on Saturday then it would likely be time to prepare for relegation, but we finally got the result we deserved despite some lapses of concentration in defence.

The release of the teamsheet came with a surprise, with new signing Freddy Moncur - son of former West Ham and Spurs midfielder John - lining up. Freddy has already been dubbed Luka by the fans due to him being a small, technical midfielder with long hair. Alfie Egan (on loan from AFC Wimbledon) continues to impress and fans are hoping the initial three month loan deal can be extended.

Monday was a solid performance against Dartford, a team many had tipped for promotion this year. We finally got given a penalty only for it to be saved, while another foul in the area later on was not given. Hopefully, as the good performances continue, the results will turn.

Last Friday’s 1-0 FA Cup win against Barking was played in very wet conditions but it was a comfortable win. In truth, we should have won this by a far greater margin, but conditions can’t have been easy and the celebrations at the end from fans, players and management showed that this was a big win.

Barking were atrocious and our keeper didn’t make a single save all night. I would love us to go on a decent FA Cup run this year, visit some new clubs and grounds and get some funds in the coffers for the club.

Against Canvey we dominated and should really have been a couple of goals up. Our keeper pulled off a fantastic save just before we took the lead. We defended superbly and looked good throughout.
