Grays’ Tey Lynn-Jones shone to be crowned Southern Area middleweight champion in Bournemouth.
The 23-year-old knocked down home favourite Matthew Legg in the seventh round to win by TKO, despite only being called up as a late replacement.
Already in training for a bout, Lynn-Jones took on the challenge and he started well.
A strong jab was keeping Legg at bay and, after slipping a couple of big shots and throwing a well timed counter right cross punch, he hit the canvas.
After the count the round continued with the Grays man closing out a dominant first three minutes.
Lynn-Jones’ jab continued to hurt Legg, who was sustaining an increased amount of facial damage into the third round.
In search of his first professional title, Lynn-Jones needed to be patient and, despite dominating the next few rounds, he allowed his opponent occasional success by getting involved in some powerful exchanges.
But Lynn-Jones forged ahead in the seventh round, punishing Legg with long well-placed heavy shots to the body and head.
Legg’s corner, despite their fighter’s pleas, eventually retired their man after a stoic effort in a highly sporting bout.
Lynn-Jones, working under MTK Global, thanked his supporters and sponsors, including Mick Norcross and Sugar Hut, Marc Gallagher LockIT Logistics, Marcus Walters The Raw Coach, Dave Sach Oakfield Physiotherapy Clinic, Wu-sh & Tick Construction.
