EAST Thurrock United’s difficult end to the season continued as Welling United took all three points in Essex.

Rocks were looking to channel the form that had seen them win 3-0 in the reverse fixture as they bid to get themselves out of a wretched run of form.

Sam Higgins blazed over with their first opportunity of the afternoon before Welling wasted a better chance to move into the lead.

Good work by Adam Coombes allowed Olumide Durojaiye a run at goal but he was well denied by home goalkeeper Lukas Lidakevicius who blocked well with his feet.

Coombes struck wide as the Wings started to find their stride, and Jack Jebb sent a shot narrowly wide of the post afterwards.

Welling were on top but Lidakevicius was remaining firm. Mark Goldberg looked odds on to score but he chose to lift the ball rather than go for power and the Rocks custodian was able to smother the effort.

Up the other end Joe Christou flashed an effort wide of the post as he continued his search for his first goal but Welling had the best chance before the half was out.

Goldberg looked odds on to score but Lidakevicius made another good stop to take Rocks into half term on level terms.

But 10 minutes after the break Welling did take a deserved lead. A cross was met by Coombes and he headed in off the underside of the crossbar.

Looking for an immediate response Rocks’ Max Cornhill headed over from a fine Higgins cross and they thought they had levelled when the ball was bundled home in the last five minutes, but it was disallowed for offside.

And that was to be that for Rocks.
