THURROCK put in one of their best performances of the season to down London Cornish and claim a bonus point victory in the National One South.

The Jake Barrand inspired home side struck early against their sixth-placed opponents, a cross field kick by Ben Stanley was sent deep inside the exiles’ 22 and was claimed on the left By Barrand who dotted over the line, converting himself.

Cornish scored a penalty before suffering a triple injury blow, and Thurrock took advantage to score on the wing through Aaron Biddle.

The away side scored their first try of the match shortly afterwards and they defied the odds to take a 15-14 lead into half-time after Claude Springer broke through a tackle to score.

Thurrock were reduced to 14 men 10 minutes into the half as Cornish missed chances to extend their lead.

And Thurrock sensed their opportunity with the visitors seemingly spent. Another cross field kick by Stanley was lost by the exiles and Barrand had an easy score on the wing.

Barrand completed his hat trick with the final play of the game to complete a fine win.

Next up, Thurrock travel to Brighton on Saturday.

The T-Birds return to action this weekend against Cheltenham Ladies on Sunday. Kick-off is at 2pm.
