THURROCK athlete Khai Riley-La Borde produced an outstanding performance to grab a silver medal in the 110 metre hurdles at the British Championships in Birmingham on Sunday.

The event was won by David King from Plymouth in 13.55 seconds with former William Edwards School pupil La Borde claiming second in 13.71 seconds.

The event was also a trial for the World Championships in August but although La Borde Khai has yet to get a qualifying time for the event his performance again showed his progress.

La Borde will now be eager to maintain top form as he heads into the European under 23 Championships in Poland which get underway on Thursday July 13.

Elsewhere, Thurrock Harriers’ athletes competed in the Eastern Championships in Cambridge and won four gold, eight silver and four bronze medals.

The medalists were Liam Chivers (U17M) who came second in the shot with 8.80metres and second in the 400m with 52.08 seconds.

Sarab Dhillon (U17M) came second in 1500m with a PBof 4:22.04. Demi Eves (U15G) came second in 800mwith 2:21.04. Hayley Instance (U17G) came second in 800m with 2:19.46 while Kayode Odumosu (U17M) came first in the high jump with 1.65m and third in 100m hurdles with 15.56 seconds.

Daniel Soyebo (U17M) came second in the triple jump with 11.81m while Harry Parker (U15M) came first in 800m with a time of 2:12.84, Michael Shorthall (SM) was second in 400mH with 60.14, Samuel Smith (U20) came third in the 800m 2:13.08, Charlie Splarn (U20M) came third in 100m with 11.53 (sb) and first in the shot with a PB of 10.38m. Rhea Stravi (U17G) came third in shot with 8.34m and also threw a PB in the javelin with 24.65m. Jessica Whitbread (U17W) was first in the long jump 5.54m and third in the triple jump with 10.02m.

Thurrock Harriers also competed as part of the Essex team at the East Anglian regional round of the Schools Combined Events Championship in Bedford.

Theo Adesina (William Edwards) came second in the Intermediate Boys Octathlon with 4645 points.

Two Harriers were also on the podium for the Junior Girls Pentathlon. Ruby Bridger (Hathaway Academy) came first and Sola Taiwo (William Edwards) came third.
