MARTIAL ARTS: Grays’ Yamaguchi Goju-Kai club topped the medal table at an invitational karate kumite tournament.
The club picked up eight gold medals, seven silver medals and eight bronze medals at William Edwards School.
In the kumite, Danielle Ball, Amalia Olaru, Lewis Darby, Mattei Zajac, Hollie Tillet took gold medals, with Brayden Hoal, Ethan Neale-Buckley, Jan Swarchz, Lucas Perry and Leja Bartasevicute picking up silver.
Emma Westcott, Maddison Ball, Annaiya Grenwell, Zuzanna Zajac picked up bronze medals.
In the secondary ‘Slamman’ event, there were gold medals for Amy Raven, Mattei Zajac and Leja Bartasevicute, with Mattei scooping his second of the weekend.
Danielle Ball and Jan Szwarc took silver and it was bronze for Emma Westcott, Amalia Olaru, Lucas Perry and Hollie Tillet.
In the end, the Grays club finished a whopping 13 points ahead of second placed Blackwell team, earning more medals than any other side in both the gold and silver categories.
