A THURROCK reserves attacker has been called up to the England under-18 Schoolboy squad.

Max Watters was one of 32 trialists to be invited to training and secured one of 16 places in the squad, with a friendly game against Australia at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre on Saturday.

And Watters said he was delighted to get selected.

“It was my Essex County manager who said I should apply for the trials,” he said.

“I played well to get through two trials before making it into the final 32. We spent a weekend at Lilleshall training and playing each other before I got to play against a forces team. I played well and we won 2-0.

“It was tricky playing with lads I hadn’t met before especially when you’re competing against each other as well and it was tough as some of them were ex-academy players but I enjoyed myself.”
