HUNDREDS attended a Grays karate club’s annual kumite tournament at the end of June, as the club won a fantastic 28 medals.
Yamaguchi Goju-Kai hosted the association Karate Kumite Tournament in Thurrock on June 26, at the William Edwards School, with more than 200 spectators packing the hall.
In total, 160 students competed from 15 clubs and associations, with the Grays club excelling in front of a strong home support.
In the Slam Man category, there were gold medals for Danielle Ball, Amalia Olaru, John Joe Field, Lois Galea, Keelan Perry and Jayden Ilkhan, silver medals for Emma Westcott, Mitchell Ames, Matti Zajac and Tyler Ilkhan and bronze medals for Kirstie Fox, Maddison Ball, Lucas Perry and Millie Sparks.
In the kumite, Owen Dixie won two gold medals, while there was one apiece for Sasha Edgeler, Amy Raven, John Joe Field and Lois Galea. Silver medals were awarded to Danielle Ball and Kirstie Fox while Emma Westcott, Maddison Ball, Lewis Darby, Matti Zajac, Jan Swarz and Millie Sparks earned bronze medals.
